When that person you care about leaves you a note on the fridge (or writes you an actual love letter), there’s a lot more to look at than the words themselves. Your beloved’s handwriting can tell you a lot about his or her personality.

For that matter, handwriting can tell you a lot about someone’s personality and compatibility with you before he or she becomes your significant other in the first place! After all, when you think about it, handwriting is “brainwriting,” isn’t it?
The study of how handwriting can reveal personality is called graphology, and it’s been around a long time. In 330 B.C., Aristotle became the first person to look at how handwriting is related to personality traits. Progress in the science was gradual until after WWI, when interest in graphology skyrocketed in Europe and the United States. In the 1940s, Klara G. Roman took graphology to the next level with the psychogram system, using a special graph to map out the entire personality.
